I've been coaching and playing hockey for over 30 years and I always tell the kids that if they stick with hockey throughout their life they will meet great people. Many of my best friends are from teams I've played on, or kids I've coached. Hockey at all ages should be about having a great time, making friends that last a lifetime, and fulfilling the competitive fire that lies within us all. Please see our "hockey philosophy" section, and send comments to Barry Biegler using BLB@Resortdata.com. Thanks.

Great to be in the Saint Olaf Colors again but, really, who wears a green helmet? Click for more pictures of the 2009 reunion tournament in Florida. |
I didn't play hockey as a kid. As a senior in high school I played my first Organized hockey and then off to Saint Olaf in 1971. Luckily for me there were only 14 kids who even tried out for the team so I made it! |
Saint Olaf College Hockey Team - 1972I played four years of Varsity at Saint Olaf, 1971 to 1975. We played outdoors!

MIT Hockey Team - 1977I'm probably the only person in the history of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) who selected the Sloan School of Business because they had a hockey club. Back in 1977 you could play on the club team even if you had used up all four years of college eligibility. So I played both years I was at MIT - 1977 and 1978. Still playing outdoors, but Boston was a little warmer than Saint Olaf (Northfield, Minnesota).
I have forgotten a lot of the names.....if anybody can remember them, Email BLB@Resortdata.com. Thanks. Barry Front row: Goalies: Dan Costa, Tom Stagliano, Paul Estey |
Saint Olaf College Softball Team - 1975Most of the people on the Saint Olaf College Softball team were hockey players!

Marina Cities Midget A - 1981 (Los Angeles Area)After graduating from business School form MIT (Sloan) in 1978 I moved to Los Angeles. I didn't know anybody so I went out to the rink and signed up for men's leagues and to coach. I don't have any pictures of the mens teams from that time, but I made a some very good friends. I coached 5 different Marina cities teams from 1981-1987. Unfortunately I can't find the pictures for all of them.

Marina Cities Midget AA 1982The Midget AA team in Marina Cities in 1982 was a lot of fun. Many talented kids. In fact we won the National Junior championship the next year (see below).

Marina Cities Juniors - 1982 National Champions1982 was a great year for Marina Cities hockey. The Junior team won the National Champion. We went to Alaska and won. I've lost contact with all the kids from that team...I'd love to find them! In October, 2004, I had a call from Pat Lamarre, who is doing great, living in Los Angeles. If any of you others are out there, send an Email to Coach Barry Biegler, at BLB@Resortdata.com. Or call my office, 970-845-1157. Men's League - Los Angeles - 1987Men's league is a great way to meet people. I didn't know a sole in Los Angeles when I moved there from Boston. All I had to do was go to the Rink and meet some people. I'm actually young for this over 35 group (I was only 35). This picture was from a tournament in Reno, Nevada. It seemed like all we did for 3 days was play hockey, gamble, and have fun. I don't remember sleeping much - which is why we probably all look so tired! |
Men's League - Vail - About 1992I moved to Vail in 1987 and didn't know anybody. So, off to the Rink to sign up for Men's League, and coach the kids. |

Mite Joint Team - Arvada and Vail - 1995At the end of the season in 1995 I wanted to take the kids to Phoenix for a fun end-of-year event, with swimming pools, amusement parks, etc. We only had 6 kids who could go from Vail. So I called up one of our "rival" teams (Arvada, which is in Denver) and asked their coach if they were interested. So we filled in with some of their players. A great experience for everybody. These kids played against each other for the next 10 years - but remained friends. Front Row: Austin Chow, Michael Garman, Tyler Russager |
Mites in the Vail Parade - 1994The Mites were in the Vail Fourth of July Parade with their Roller blades. A cold and rainy day - but fun for all none-the-less. |
Vail Squirts AA - 1997One of my favorite teams was the Vail Squirt AA team of 1997. Tremendous talent, great parents, wonderful kids. Click here for details of Vail Squirt AA 1997. |

Vail Peewee AA 1999Youth hockey teams are all about family and friends. The 1999 Vail Peewee AA team had a great group of parents. Here we are in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace, right before a dinner show we all attended. Click here for details of Vail Peewee AA 1999 |
